Airlie Gardens

Airlie Gardens

Enjoy the beautiful scenery, and the close interaction with nature as Arlie springs brings you a beautiful and unique experience to enjoy. The gardens span more than 67 acres of land, and there are some unique places for you to enjoy.

The gardens you may explore are the Airlie Oak Lawn, the Spring Garden, the Pergola Garden, and the Minnie Evans Bottle Chapel. The Tranquility Gardens & Butterfly House is another magnificent offering, but it operates on a seasonal schedule.

Behind the model Airlie House is the awe-inspiring Pollinator Garden. As the name suggests, it’s designed to attract various species for pollination purposes. The plants present were meant to have that effect, which means there is a series of hummingbirds, moths, bees, and butterflies that contribute immensely to the plants’ survival and reproduction while getting nectar and pollen in return.

The Passion Flower, Sunflower, Purple Coneflower, and Butterfly Weed are some examples of the kind of flowers to expect.

As you plan your visit, the first significant piece of information revolves around the opening hours, which fall between 9 AM and 5 PM daily. The final admittance occurs at 4:30 PM, so if you arrive beyond that time, you likely need to choose a new day to get the experience. There is no opening on Mondays during the winter, and New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas day are also off-limits.

There’s a convenient gift shop that has you covered if you feel like you want to grab a couple of souvenirs of your journey. Its opening hours are 9 AM to 4:30 PM.

Entry is only granted to those who have tickets, and you need to buy them online in advance to be eligible. The admission goes beyond access to the common grounds and seasonal exhibits, and it includes a dedicated parking area.

Ticket validity is very impressive since each purchase remains valid for a year. Note, however, that using them to get into special events is forbidden. During your visit, ensure you have a hat and sunglasses, some sunscreen, a comfortable pair of shoes, and a refillable water bottle.

Face covering and a camera are also staples. It would be best if you reviewed the photography policy on Airlie Garden’s website before you go, as you don’t want to cross the lines between commercial and informal photos.

The site recommends that you leave sporting equipment, regular pets, and your emotional support animals behind when you visit.

Any buildings, garden pathways, or restrooms that you may need to access are both stroller and wheelchair friendly. The location can provide a free wheelchair upon ID provision, but it’s a first-come, first-served item, so there are no guarantees in that regard. At the time of writing, the wheelchair checkout, tram service, and guided tours are all going through a temporary suspension.

Be sure to check before buying tickets and making the journey to see if these and other offerings are available or not. You can find Airlie Gardens at 300 Airlie Road, Wilmington, NC, and it’s only a matter of minutes northeast of Wilmington’s downtown area. It’s a good idea to call or send an email for any queries or concerns you may have that the site does.
